Morel Meatballs In Mushroom Sauce

1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1 1/2 cups soft bread
1/4 cup minced shallots
2 eggs
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 oz dried Basil

– Mushroom Sauce:
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/2 lb. sliced fresh morels
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup cream
2 cups beef broth
1/4 cup sour cream
1/2 tsp salt

  1. Combine all ingredients for meatballs. Shape into meatballs. Place in baking dish. Bake in preheated 350° F oven 30 minutes. Mushroom Sauce: Melt butter in saucepan add onion. Sauté till transparent. Add flour to pan making a light roux. Remove pan from heat. Add cream, morels and beef broth. Cook until smooth and thickened, stirring constantly. Stir in sour cream and add seasonings. Pour over meatballs. bake 20 minutes longer. Serve over hot buttered wide egg noodles, or make home made noodles.
